Do I Need Planning Permission?
A large proportion of all alterations and improvements to your property can be carried out without the need to obtain formal planning permission from your Local Council. Many improvements and alterations fall into the category of permitted development and can be carried out with no need for detailed drawings, forms or a fee to be submitted to the local planning authority. Neither are they dependent upon the approval of the Council or a long wait for a decision.
These developments include:
- Detached garden buildings including garages, annexes, greenhouses and garden sheds.
- Rear and side extensions to dwellings
- Porches
- Loft conversions, including dormer windows
- Renewable energy sources such as solar panels and domestic wind turbines
- Accesses and driveways
- Erection of walls and fences
These developments are only acceptable when they comply with specific criteria contained in the General Permitted Development Order. Our team can make a speedy assessment of your proposals and confirm whether or not they would require planning permission. If planning permission is not required confirmation can be sought from the Local Planning Authority.
Should the development you propose require planning permission our team will provide advice as to the most appropriate way forward and your likely chances of success upon the submission of a planning application.
