EXPERIENCE- Chris Ballam gained 17 years experience at a senior level in Mineral Planning Authorities and worked for a further 8 years in the minerals industry, joining the Land and Development Practice in 1999.
Chris worked as a senior planning officer for South Yorkshire County Council where he was responsible for the South Yorkshire Minerals Local Plan and minerals and waste policies in the Structure Plan. He also prepared the Regional Aggregate Working Party Reports. After the County Council’s abolition in 1986, he moved to Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council as the Minerals Officer, where he dealt with the extensive mining, quarrying and landfill operations in the Borough.
In 1991 he moved into the private opencast mining sector as a Planning Manager, based in Derbyshire. In this position, Chris was responsible for the preparation of planning applications and environmental statements for mining and landfill. He also oversaw restoration, including tree planting and wetland creation, designed site working and restoration schemes and monitored environmental compliance.
In summer 1999, Chris left industry to join The Land and Development Practice. Since 1999, Chris has managed planning applications and EIA for the mines and quarries, oil and gas developments, including underground gas storage and pipelines, waste management and landfills. Chris regularly deals with enforcement issues and public enquiries
