EXPERIENCE - Mark has worked in private practice since graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2004. Since leaving university Mark has acquired knowledge in may aspects of planning initially working for international companies on energy and telecommunications schemes before moving into more mainstream planning in august 2008 with The Land and Development Practice.

Since joining the practice Mark has worked with a range of clients from housing developers and builders to private individuals. Mark’s day to day work involves the submission of application to Local Planning Authorities and appeals to the planning inspectorate. Such submissions require an intimate knowledge of local and national planning policies, legislations, case law and material planning considerations.

In order to achieve planning permission on behalf of clients Mark has produced flood risk assessments, sequential and exception tests, phase 1 contamination reports, character assessments and justified reductions in community infrastructure contributions.

Recent work has included obtaining planning approval for an elderly person’s health village in Leeds, an agricultural workers dwelling in Wetherby and 14 flats within Thirsk. The development in Thirsk was located in flood zone 3a, a conservation area and had ecological concerns due to the presence of bats, otters and water voles. In obtaining planning permission a reduction of £31,000 of developer contributions was also justified
